In 1834, the last year of his chancellorship, Brougham was becoming increasingly unpopular due to his perceived arrogance.

Doyle preserved his anonymity as 'H.B.' until 1843, when he revealed himself to Sir Robert Peel in a letter justifying his motives and principles as a cartoonist.

Robert Peel pulls the overcoat off a nightwatchman to throw onto a burning watch box, as the watchman begs for mercy. Another watchman hangs from a tree, still holding his lamp and rattle. An arm also holding a rattle sticks up out of a lake. A satire on the replacement of the district watch system with Peel's new police force, and the phasing out of the watch boxes which the watchmen often lived in. By William Heath (1794/5 - 1840), ex-Captain of Dragoons. From 1827-9 he used the pseudonym Paul Pry (from the name of a character in a comedy of 1825 by John Poole; however the monogram was soon copied by other caricaturists (eg Sharpshooter), so Heath reverted to using his own name.

A group of figures outside the house is engaged in a game of skittles. Jefferyes Hamett O'Neale (1750-1801) was a leading porcelain painter, working at the Chelsea Porcelain Factory c. 1755 before moving to Worcester c.1767. He returned to London in 1770, after which he exhibited miniatures at the Society of Artists and produced illustrations for books and magazines.

Jefferyes Hamett O'Neale (1750-1801) was a leading porcelain painter, working at the Chelsea Porcelain Factory c. 1755 before moving to Worcester c.1767. He returned to London in 1770, after which he exhibited miniatures at the Society of Artists and produced illustrations for books and magazines.

Although Trotter declares he will be safe, the inference is that Melville is in serious trouble. A satire on the impeachment of Henry Dundas, Lord Melville, for irregular financial dealings as Treasurer of the navy, begun by Samuel Whitbread. Alexander Trotter (1750-1830) was Paymaster to the Navy in 1805, and so involved with the corruption, but was given immunity in return for testifying.

Two siblings argue over the possessions of their deceased mother, provoking her ghost to appear between them. 'I wish I had left them to the Poor of the Parish', she concludes. One of a set by 'Giles Grinagain', probably a pseudonym for the publisher Samuel Howitt.

His childless marriage sparked the last of the French Wars of Religion. He was assassinated by Dominican monk Jacques Clément. The engraver, Hieronymus Wierix (1553-1619) was a child prodigy, becoming a master aged 19.

He considered himself to be an advanced Radical in terms of politics and wrote various pamphlet, one of which landed him in Newgate in 1819. However, by 1820 he was admitted to Parliament, as MP for Westminster. Following the Whig's rise to power, he held many offices, including Secretary at War, Chief Secretary for Ireland, and President of the Board of Control. After James Lonsdale (1777 - 1839).
