A frame label of Thomas Major (1720-99), the first engraver to became an Associate of the Royal Academy, 1768, who worked from the Golden Head 1755-6. Having also worked in Paris he had good contacts in France: this label is on the back of a portrait of the Duchess of Orleans after Rigaud, engraved by Ch. Simonneau L'aine.
