If you would simply like to browse through our stock, click on the Catalogues link at the top of the page. There are several other options available via the search panel on the left. For the most part these are self-explanatory, but some extra information may help to make your searching easier.
This is the most flexible search option. It will find words or parts of words anywhere in the description, including artist, engraver, method, size etc..
Example search criteria:
terrier
london mezzot
dog 260mm
chin philos
In the last example, descriptions containing either 'china', 'chinese' or 'chine' and 'philosopher', 'philosophy' or 'philosophical' would be found.
This option will enable you to find artists by selecting the first letter of their last name. Clicking on an artist will find matching records.
Once selected, the current artist will remain the default as you switch between the list of artists and the results page.
The engravers option works in exactly the same way.
In most cases subjects are divided into subcategories. To view all items in a category, choose the first option in the list (eg 'All Arts'), otherwise choose a subcategory.
This option offers very specific searching. Records must match all entered critera, which can be used in any combination.
For example you could search for:
method: mezzotint
or
method: mezzotint/subject: satire
or
method: mezzotint/subject: satire/year: 1750-1800
The keyword field incorporates the Quick Search option, combining it with advanced search criteria.
Despite its name, Advanced Search can also be used for specific, yet simple searches. For example using this option you could easily find all the watercolours on our website (by selecting from the methods popup list).
