View of Lausanne, Switzerland, with the towers of the Cathedral of Notre Dame prominent. A view probably seen by the amateur artist, Mary Anne Theresa Whitby (1784-1850) when visiting the continent in the 1820s, and reproduced by an unidentified lithographer. Whitby inherited the country seat of Newlands, Hampshire in 1819, on the death of naval officer Sir William Cornwallis, and established a private press there to print lithographs by herself and others.
