Cornelis Tromp (1629-91), Lieutenant Admiral General and Admiral General in the Dutch Navy. Tromp fought in the three Anglo-Dutch Wars, distinguishing himself particularly in the Battle of Schooneveld and Battle of Texel (1673). He also served in the Scanian War, in which Denmark sought unsuccessfully to recover lands recently ceded to Sweden. Engraved after a portrait by the Dutch portrait painter and collector Sir Peter Lely (1618-80), painted around 1675 and now in London's National Maritime Museum.

A large plate of a sea trout, usually published in Sir William Jardine's 'British Salmonidæ', but this example apparently a plate spoiled in production. Jardine (1800-74), best-known for his populist 'Naturalist's Library' series, was a keen angler and authority on salmon and trout in the British Isles, recognised in 1860 by his appointment to the Royal Commission on the Salmon Fisheries of England and Wales. The fish shown here was caught near Jardine Hall, his estate in Annandale.

As an etcher, he restricted his original work to naturalistic landscape subjects; however, he was also an accomplished reproductive printmaker, producing highly finished etchings after the work of Joseph Farquharson, Alfred Parsons, B.W. Leader and others.

A view looking from Bournabashi Hill across the Plains of Troy towards Tenedos, published in Sir William Gell's 'Topography of Troy'. The hill is the site of 'Old' Troy. Byron wrote a couplet about Gell: 'Of Dardan tours let Dilettanti tell, / I leave topography to to classic Gell'. After visiting the area and learning that Gell had sketched the region in three days, Byron changed the second line to 'rapid Gell'.

Adelaide Anne Procter (1825-1864) was an English poet and philanthropist. She fought for womens employment and was actively involved with feminist groups and journals. Many of her poems were made into hymns or otherwise set to music. This particular poem "the Peace of God," was set to music by Rev.d Olinthus Roberts Barnicott who studied at St John's College, and went ont to be Curate of Preston, Sussex. He became Chaplain of Cottesmore School, Brighton; and Pembroke Lodge, Worthing, Sussex.

The battle against King Porus, with the latter riding an elephant at the centre, and trying to repel the Greek soldiers surrounding him, two eagles flanking Mansart's arms in the bottom margin. The Battle of the Hydaspes River fought against Alexander the Great by King Porus of the Hindu Paurava kingdom. Robert Wilkinson republished many of the Bowles plates in the early 1800s. He took over the business of John Bowles following his death in 1799.

Victor Thomas Trumper (1877-1915) the Australian cricketer who was known as the most stylish and versatile batsman of the Golden Age of Cricket, capable of playing match-winning innings on wet wickets. He was also a key figure in the foundation of the rugby league in Australia. Albert Chevallier Tayler (1862-1925), the English artist who specialised in portrait and genre painting.

A small girl balances a sugar cube on the nose of a dog much larger than her. The girl was one of the nine children of Charles Churchill (1823-1905) a City timber broker who bought Weybridge Park in 1863. Another of his children was the subject of Barber's 'In Disgrace'. This is from one of numerous child and dog paintings executed by Charles Burton Barber (1845-1894) towards the end of his life. He attained great success with his paintings of children with their pets; during his life he received commissions from Queen Victoria, and a number of his portraits are in the Royal Collection.
