A half length portrait of Mary Stuart (d. 1807), wife of M.P. Humphrey Sturt, with her son Humphrey Ashley Sturt (1760-1825). Sayer published the plate on the 20th June with the title 'Miss Sturt...' before hurriedly correcting it to 'Mrs'. Chaloner Smith, apparently unaware of the third state, questions whether the pair are siblings. CS 137,i of ii; Goodwin 79, i of iii. Lugt L.2178, Fritz Reiss of London, whose collection of mezzotints is described by Lugt as 'l'une des plus belles de ce genre'; It was dispersed in 1914.

This copy of the list belonged to Alfred Towgood, who is named as one of the three Trustees. It seems the soldier who died served under him, and Towgood was one of the architects of a relief fund for the soldier's family. Provenance: from a scrap album compiled c.1840 - 1880 by Alfred Towgood of Riverside, a paper mill owner at St. Neots, Huntingdon. He was also a Lieutenant in the Duke of Manchester's Light Horse.

'Mr. Browne's Lectures' inscribed to the pediment of an initialled bust of Marcus Tullius Cicero (106BC - 43BC). Mr. Browne is unidentified; possibly he was a noted public speaker in Norwich, Norfolk. The bust of the Roman statesman Cicero is being decorated with garlands of flowers by three winged putti within the oval design. Possibly by engraver Thomas Bonner (c.1740 - c.1812).

Sudbrook House, built by James Gibbs for John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll, completed 1728. His heirs sold the estate in 1819 to Sir Robert Wilmot-Horton, 3rd Baronet, who died there in 1842. This print was drawn for the 1844 sale, when Dr James Ellis bough the estate to establish a hydropathy clinic. In 1853 Crown Estate repurchased the freehold, leasing the estate to The Richmond Golf Club from 1891, but in 2016 club bought the freehold.

A back street of Suez with an Arab astride a donkey, after a watercolour by Eduard Hildebrandt (1819-1869). He travelled in the Americas in the 1840s and through Egypt to the Far East in the 1860s. This is one of a collection of chromolithographs from his watercolours, published as 'die Reise um die Erde'. The chromolithograph is trimmed to the image as normal and mounted on card, in imitation of the presentation of a watercolour.

A fine watercolour showing Highlands House, in the village of East Bergholt in the Babergh District of Suffolk, England, just north of the Essex border. The house is sitiuated within large grounds, in which two archery targets can be seen on either side. East Bergholt is the birthplace of painter John Constable (1776 - 1837). The high level of skill and accuracy of the painting would suggest that it was made by an architect.

A portrait of the chesnut Suffolk Punch breed, a domestic daught horse used in farming or for pulling artillery. From Professor David Low's (1786-1859) 'The Breeds of the Domesticated Animals of the British Islands' (1842), which contained fifty-six lithographs after paintings by William Shiels (1783-1857). Low, professor of agriculture at Edinburgh university and the founder of an agricultural museum, commissioned Shiels to paint 100 scientifically accurate illustrations of domestic livestock for his collection. A selection of these paintings, many of which depict breeds now extinct, were selected by Low to illustrate his ideas on breeding and preservation of indigenous species.

Suleiman Aga (or Müteferrika Süleyman Aga), Ottoman ambassador to Louis XIV in 1669. Visiting Versailles, he refused to bow to Louis, who banned him the Palace. He is credited with making coffee fashionable in Paris.

Full length portrait of Sir Henry Sullivan (1785-1814), 2nd Baronet, in uniform, his shako resting on a cannon. Despite being a soldier serving in the Napoleonic Wars, he was elected MP for both Rye and Lincoln in 1812. He stood down for Rye, but remained MP for Lincoln until his death, unsuprisingly playing little part in Parliamentary business. He was killed in 1814, during a sortie by the French garrison of Bayonne Thouvenot against the besieging British Army, despite the unofficial news of Napoleon's abdication reaching both sides. His memorial plaque is in the Church of St Nicholas, Thames Ditton, Surrey.

A very fine and rare engraving using many mixed methods. Plate 514 x 420mm. 20¼ x 16½". minor nicks and tears in outer edges of the paperbut effecting the plate mark on the left.
Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of Sully (1560-1641) was a French Minister and staunch Huguenot who acted as the right-hand man to Henry IV of France and assisted in the rule of France. He also greatly contributed to the rehabilitation of France after the Wars of Religion (1562-98), during which he enlisted in the Protestant Army and wrote a plan of a Christian Union of Protestant Europe.

Plate from 'Recueil de cent estampes représentant différentes nations du Levant', a set of one hundred plates depicting the costume of the Levant, based on paintings in the collection of the Marquis Charles de Ferriol, ambassador from the court of Versailles to the Sublime Porte from 1699 to 1710. The work had a profound effect on how the European conception of Turkey. After Jean-Baptiste Vanmour (1671-1737), the Flemish-French painter, who Ferriol brought with him to Istanbul at the age of eighteen. Ferriol commissioned at least a hundred paintings from Vanmour, which served as the source for the engravings in the 'Recueil' and are now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

From a series of forty-two ornament prints, divided into six sets of seven plates each; this plates belongs to the fifth set.
