Bust directed to right, with curled hair and robes, in an oval frame on ledge with a coat of arms below the image. Jérôme Bignon was a French lawyer born in Paris, who gained great reputation after publishing 'Choréographie, ou description de la Terre Sainte' in 1600, which served to introduce the author to Henry IV, who placed him for some time as a companion to the Duke of Vendôme, and made him tutor to the 'dauphin', and afterwards Louis XIII.

The family running this business were apparently unrelated to the London seedsman James Dickson (1738?-1822), and was seemingly run by James Dickson (1777-1834) and his half-brother George (1783-1825). Robert Dunthorne, born around 1850 was a successful print dealer and publisher in London. His Gallery "Rembrandt" in Vigo Street held exhibitions of the major artists of the times between 1880's-1930's. Some of these artists included Williams Strange, James McNeill Whistler, Axel Haig and W. L. Wyllie.
