William Maddocks (1773-1828) a property developer and politician built a sea wall across Traeth Mawr, the Cob, to reclaim a large proportion from the sea for agricultural use. A road was also constructed along the embankment, and formed the line of communication between the counties of Caernarfon and Merioneth. The work was completed in 1811, at an expense of about £60,000. The town of Tremadoc (Tremadog), was built by Maddocks on Penmorfa at his own expense. From "Six Views in the Neighbourhood of Port Madoc, Respectfully dedicated to Mrs. Wm. Alexander Maddocks and Mrs. Gwynne. by their obliged and obedient Servantm C.F. Williams".

A view of the fishing village Portpatrick on the Rhins of Galloway, the peninsula on the end of south-west of Scotland. Port Patrick is a village on the extreme south-western tip of mainland Scotland, cut into a cleft in steep cliffs. It was a village founded on fishing origins with the crescent shaped harbour being constructed for that purpose. Ackermann's Repository of Arts was an illustrated, British periodical published from 1809-1829 by Rudolph Ackermann. The formal title of the publication was "Respository of Arts, Literature, Commerce, Manufactures, Fashions, and Politics", and it did cover all of these fields. At the time, it was considered to be of great influence to the English taste in fashion, architecture, and literature.

A pair of young boys acquire a hare from an old man, apparently for Zoffany, whose name is on the paper one boy holds up. The other boy eats a sandwich, the newly fashionable snack. The author Pierre-Jean Grosley saw sandwiches in London in 1765: his account ('Londres', published Neuchâtel in 1770 and translated as 'A Tour to London' in 1772) contains the first published version of the popular legend that the Earl of Sandwich invented them. The original oil is in the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, bequeathed in 1955 by Ernest Edward Cook, grandson of travel agent Thomas Cook.

Sir Robert Ker Porter (1777-1842), artist and diplomat, noted for his accounts of travels in Spain, Portugal and Russia, and his panoramic paintings. His 'Storming of Seringapatam', 120 feet (37 m) long was exhibited at the Lyceum, displayed as three-quarters of a circle, causing a sensation. He was knighted for his services to the diplomatic corps.

An oval portrait of an old woman, ledger with 'Ladies' Subscriptions', quill and ink. When Richard ‘Beau’ Nash became Master of Ceremonies at Tunbridge Wells Assembly Rooms in 1735, he employed Sarah Porter to assist in touting or enlisting subscribers. She would greet visitors at the door of the ballroom is if she knew them, enquiring after a relative, before asking them to pay a subscription: if they refused, she would shadow them around the room, ledger and quill in hand, until they gave in and paid up. However rude people became Sarah never responded in kind. She continued in the role until 1762. CS 27.

A view along the Jurassic coast in Dorset; the Grade 1 listed Rufus Castle, also known as Bow and Arrow Castle, the ruined castle overlooking Church Ope Cave on Portland. Named Rufus as it was probably built by that king. Soon after this print was made, William Penn's grandson John built a mansion nearby and enclosed the castle, restricting the free access to the castle which had previously been available to visitors.
