A satire on the duel fought between , William Richard Chetwynd (c.1731–1765) Member of Parliament for Stafford and Horatio Walpole (1678 –1757), 1st Baron Walpole. Chetwynd had told Walpole in the House of Commons that the Walpole brothers deserved to be hanged following the investigation into their affairs. The two men stepped outside into Pipe's Ground and fought a duel, in which Chetwynd was wounded and Walpole was saved only by his opponent's sword striking a button. The duel was stopped by a passing clerk before any serious injury might have occured. They were arrested by Speaker Onslow. In the print the person perhaps representing Onslow is identified by Stephens as Lord Hardwicke. The print was advertised in the London Daily Post, 14 March 1743.

The anastatic printing process, which was discovered in the early 1840s or just before, created a good deal of interest in that decade, being promoted and extolled by Michael Faraday, Edgar Allen Poe and (Sir) Walter Siemens. It was a cheap method of producing facsimiles of text or drawings, the only requirement of which was that the material to be copied should have been produced by a medium, usually ink, with an oily content. S.H. Cowell of Ipswich was the principal commercial exponent of anastatic printing, for which he held a licence.

Map of Piraeus (the port of Athens) with Phaleron Bay (or Faliro) the original port, superceded by the construction of Piraeus, published in the 'Antiquities of Athens and Other Monuments of Greece' by James 'Athenian' Stuart & Nicholas Revett. Stuart (1713–88) and Revett (1720–1804) joined Gavin Hamillton and Matthew Brettingham on a Grand Tour of Italy, the Balkans & Greece between 1748-55. On their return they started work on the 'Antiquities', which was the first accurate survey of the surviving classical buildings of Athens, with the first volume published in 1762, the second 1789, third 1794, fourth 1816 and fifth 1830 (nearly 80 years after the first). The work was incredibly influential, fueling the Greek revivalist style in 18th-century English architecture. The attention to detail was such that it attracted the attention of Hogarth, who satirised the work with his 'Five Orders of Periwig'. This map was published in Volume 4; the general map of Attica in the same volume was signed by Arrowsmith.

A pirate himself, he could write about characters like Henry Morgan from first-hand experience, as he was in Morgan's band at the time of this attack on Panama on January. 28, 1671. 1,500 pirates took the city, but missed a treasure ship. Exquemelin returned to Amsterdam soon after, published this book and joined the Dutch Surgeons' Guild. However the wanderlust had not left him: in 1697 his name was on the muster-roll as a surgeon on a pirate ship in the pay of the French during their attack on Cartagena.

Portrait of the French pirate, Jean David Nau, known as François L'Ollonais, from Exquemelin's 'History of the Bucaniers of America'. Based on Tortuga, he plundered Maracaibo and Gibraltar in 1666, and Puerto de Cavallo and San Pedro in May 1667. He was killed by an Nicaraguan native. Alexandre Olivier Exquemelin, himself a former pirate who had sailed with Henry Morgan, published his history of pirates operating in the Americas in Dutch in 1678. The first English edition was published in 1684, but translated from a Spanish edition that exaggerated the mis-deeds of the English pirates, including Morgan, who sued the publishers and won.

Behind the former are a few soldiers with bayoneted muskets and one or two constables or magistrates; behind the latter is an immense procession of well-dressed pitmen, carrying banners, the two leaders being in the foreground on the extreme right. Between the two parties stands a man in top-boots, identified in pencil below as Thomas Easton, who says to the owners: 'Gentlemen these Fellows say they won't dissolve their Union I can make nothing of them'. The most prominent of the owners can be individually identified, notably the group includes Tory MP Matthew Bell. Behind them are two others, unidentified, one saying, 'Oh! the Fools'. Two of the many banners have inscriptions: 'Patience & Perseverance Will Recover Our Rights and ‘United To Relieve And Not To Injure'. The long procession recedes in perspective; on the skyline beyond is a pithead building with a tall chimney. During the great strike of Durham and Northumberland miners in the spring of 1832, the owners made recognition of the Union the only issue.

A group of six representing the coal-owners faces a spokesman of the miners (right) on an open moor. Behind the former are a few soldiers with bayoneted muskets and one or two constables or magistrates; behind the latter is an immense procession of well-dressed pitmen, carrying banners, the two leaders being in the foreground on the extreme right. Between the two parties stands a man in top-boots, identified in pencil below as Thomas Easton, who says to the owners: 'Gentlemen these Fellows say they won't dissolve their Union I can make nothing of them'. The most prominent of the owners can be individually identified, notably the group includes Tory MP Matthew Bell. Behind them are two others, unidentified, one saying, 'Oh! the Fools'. To the left, a Frenchman hands £10,000 to two Spaniards; to the right, officials watch as chests marked for the French ambassador Bussy (1699-1780) are filled with money. A letter to the Duke of Bedford (1710-71) lies nearby, while idle warships sit in harbour despite a fair wind, symbolizing Britain’s abandoned strength. The design for this print is attributed to Hayman (c. 1708-76) on stylistic grounds although it is not included in Allen's catalogue. The portrait of Pitt is after William Hoare of Bath (1707-92).
