Marc-Auguste Pictet (1752-1825) the Swiss physicist, chemist, meteorologist and astronomer. He was one of the eight founding members of the Geneva Society of Physics and Natural History. He served as director of the Geneva Observatory for around 30 years, and as such oversaw the installation of a meteorological station on Great St. Bernard mountain in the Alps. His work in astronomy was recognised by having a crater on the Moon, Pictet, named after him.

A panorama, or 'Typorama', of Rome created by George Danson (1799-1881), with St. Peter's Basilica behind the Ponte Sant'Angelo, with the Castel Sant'Angelo on the right. The audience stand at the side of a lake representing the 'Tiber'. At night St Peter's was illuminated and there was a firework show around the Castell Sant' Angelo, organised by the Gardens' pyrotechnist Joseph Southby. The same image was used when the typorama was exhibited in Hull.

By Bernard Picart (1673-1733), draughtsman and engraver whose work consisted mostly of drawing and engraving for book publication.

Sir Peircy Brett (1709-1781) of Beckenham, Kent, was master attendant of Sheerness and Chatham Docks. In 1745 as Rear Admiral, he fell in with the French ship 'Elisabeth', which was convoying the frigate on board which Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender, was taking passage to Scotland. In 1766 he was made Lord of the Admiralty, a post which he held until 1770 when he became a vice-admiral. Brett became an admiral in 1778 and was buried in a church vault in Beckenham, Kent.

She is remembered for her letters from Turkey, as wife to the ambassador, which have been described by Billie Melman as 'the very first example of a secular work by a woman about the Muslim Orient'. Portrait after a miniature; three-quarters length standing with her right arm resting on a tree branch, her cheek against her hand, her left hand at her side, wearing a simple gown with her hair dressed half up; in an oval; number 1 of a set.

It also includes the publication line of Nicolaes Visscher II (1647-1702) who published an edition at the end of the 17th century.

Gentlemen pigeon shooting. A man seated with dead pigeons holds a string attached to a box to the far right from which pigeons fly out of; a man holding a rifle poised shoots at the flying birds. Other men to the right stand ready to collect the fallen pigeons; three further men by the shooter. Plate 34 from 'National Sports of Great Britain'.
