A reversed engraving of the so-called 'Raphael and his fencing master' portrait, with the two men shown half-length behind a parapet, Raphael behind with one hand on his friend's shoulder. The friend points to the viewer as he looks over his shoulder at the artist. The orignal oil, painted c.1518, is now in the Louvre.

Mezzotint, with publication address partially erased before it was altered to Pascal's. Image 355 x 290mm, 14 x 11½". Lacking lower margin; the three others tatty and chipped, some senting and a few tiny inkspots on the face.
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606 - 1669), Dutch painter and etcher; after the 1669 self-portrait in the Uffizi, Florence. Head and shoulders with tufts of hair showing around the ears, directed slightly to right but looking at the viewer, wearing a fur-trimmed cloak and beret, a medal on a ribbon around his neck, traces of a moustache and beard. Engraving after the 1669 self-portrait by Rembrandt in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence, inv.no.1871 (Bredius 60).

Portrait to waist of the German artist and engraver Johann Elias Ridinger (1698-1767). Portrait in an oval supported on an engraved stone, beside which is seated the goddess Diana who holds a bow. The spoils from Diana's hunting, which include a stag, a boar and several birds, lie around the portrait; a hound and a hooded bird of prey are seated alongside. Ridinger holds his palette and brushes, the outline of a stag is propped on an easel behind him. The animals and the woodland scene illustrate Ridinger's talent for depicting animals and their characteristics in their natural environment.

August Riedel (1799-1883) was a German painter, and son of the architect Karl Christian Riedel. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich from 1820, where P. Van Lange was his first professor. Van Lange encouraged him to travel to Italy, and Riedel eventually settled in Rome in 1832. His works were popular and collected by the Bavarian Royal Family and other important buyers.

Portrait of Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712-78), half-length, turned to left, looking to the viewer, wearing a fur-trimmed coat and a fur hat. The print is actually after Baron François Pascal Simon Gérard's (1770-1837) black and white chalk drawing which was after Maurice Quentin de La Tour's (1704-88) painting which is claimed to be the only one that Rousseau admitted as a likeness.

A portrait of the Flemish baroque painter Peter Paulus Rubens (1577 - 1640), with his first wife, Isabella Brant. Originally published 1801, the print is after a painting now in Kenwood House. Despite the attribution here it is not certain whether the figures were painted by Rubens or Cornelis de Vos, although it was Frans Snyders who painted the hind slung over Rubens' shoulder, the game birds in the basket on his arm and the fruit in the basket on Isabella's head.
