An interior view of a class at Winchester College, with the motto 'Aut Disce Aut Disce Manet Sors Tertia Caedi' on the wall at the back. George Heywood Maunoir Sumner (1853-1940) was a founder of the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society and an early Master of the Art Workers' Guild. He first publication, 'The Itchen Valley', was a collection of etching that came out in 1881.

A view of one of the depicting the Old Commoner buildings shortly before they were demolished. Richard Baigent (1799-1881) was an drawing master at Winchester College for fifty years, before emigrating to Canada in mid 1862, where he was appointed drawing master at Upper Canada College. He was elected a founding member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 1872 and was named an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1880.

In the nineteenth century and before, when there were sevene chambers, there was no requirement that the prefect in charge of a chamber should be an Officer. The Prefect of the Hall's toyes was always physically in Sixth Chamber, but he was not a member of that, or any, chamber. Winchester College, Hampshire, founded in 1382 and the oldest of the original nine English public schools defined by the Public Schools Act 1868.
