Anne de Montmorency (1493-1567), French soldier, statesman and diplomat. Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Hanover (1709-1759), was the second child and eldest daughter of George II and his consort, Queen Caroline. She was the wife of William IV of Orange, the first hereditary stadtholder of the Netherlands. Princess Anne was the second daughter of a British sovereign to hold the title Princess Royal. From a series of twenty-one engravings by Jacob Houbraken and Pieter Tanjé of Dutch stadholders and their families, each in a decorative oval placed on a pedestal, designed by Hendrik van Pothoven.
