Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713) was an Italian violinist and composer of Baroque music. Corelli began in Paris from where he went on to travel and accepted many invitations from nobility, including his stay at the palace of Cardinal Ottoboni. He is remembered for his precision and stylistic playing which he passed onto his pupils. His compositions for the instrument mark and epoch in the history of chamber music, influencing Johann Sebastian Bach. One of several engravings based on the famous portrait of Corelli by Hugh Howard (Oxford, Music Faculty collection).

A view of the exterior of the Temple of Apollo, Corinth, published in the 'Antiquities of Athens and Other Monuments of Greece' by James 'Athenian' Stuart & Nicholas Revett. Stuart (1713–88) and Revett (1720–1804) joined Gavin Hamillton and Matthew Brettingham on a Grand Tour of Italy, the Balkans & Greece between 1748-55. On their return they started work on the 'Antiquities', which was the first accurate survey of the surviving classical buildings of Athens, with the first volume published in 1762, the second 1789, third 1794, fourth 1816 and fifth 1830 (nearly 80 years after the first). The work was incredibly influential, fueling the Greek revivalist style in 18th-century English architecture. The attention to detail was such that it attracted the attention of Hogarth, who satirised the work with his 'Five Orders of Periwig'.
Stuart's gouache of the temple is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, RIBA Library Drawings Collection, SD146/2.

In 1801 Bartolozzi was invited to Lisbon to reform the royal printing press, and he spent his final years in Portugal.

Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marques Cornwallis, KG (1738-1805) was a British Army officer and colonial administrator. In the United States and Britain, he is best remembered as one of the leading generals in the American War of Independence. His 1781 surrender to a combined American-French force at the Siege of Yorktown is often incorrectly considered the end of the war; in fact it continued for a further two years. Despite this defeat, he retained the confidence of successive British governments and continued to enjoy an active career. A 8' statue of Charles Cornwallis (1738-1805), dressed as a Roman soldier, standing on a pedestal flanked by figures of Fortitude & Prudence. Commissioned by the residents of Calcutta, designed by John Bacon senior and completed by his son John Bacon junior, it is now in the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata, India. Governor-General of India (1786-1793), Charles Cornwallis became famous for his reforming administration. He established the Cornwallis (or Bengal) code for stamping out corruption and pioneered a more professional, salaried civil service. His improvements had valuable long-term consequences for the effective government of India.
