In 1775 the premier Grand Lodge purchased a house on Queen Street, behind which was a garden and a second house. A competition was held for the design of a Grand Hall to link the two houses. The winning design was by draughtsman, watercolour artist, architect and teacher, Thomas Sandby. Published in Ackermann's famous work, the 'Microcosm of London', the figures were drawn by the famous caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson and the architecture by Augustus Pugin.

Two passages of text, one from Edmund Burke on the Sublime, together claim that gardens are works of art rather than nature, and can only become great by availing themselves of the resources of deception and artifice characteristic of art. Repton was the last great English landscape designer of the 18th century, who coined the term 'landscape gardener'. Regarded as the successor to Capability Brown, he worked at Blaise Castle, Woburn Abbey, Stoneleigh Abbey & the central gardens in Russell Square, but lost out on the Prince Regent's Brighton Pavilion to John Nash (although he published his designs).

This scene commemorates the 87th's role in the Battle of Barossa of 1811 in which the first Napoleonic Imperial Eagle was captured by the British. Battle scene in which a Sergeant (marked by the three stripes on his arm) of the 87th stands above a fallen French soldier. The Sergeant takes the fallen Napoleonic flag from the dead soldier whilst behind him privates from the 87th regiment engage in battle in the background. This scene commemorates the 87th's role in the Battle of Barossa of 1811 in which the first Napoleonic Imperial Eagle was captured by the British. Sion House can be seen in the background to the right. Syon House, and its 200 acre park, was designed by architect Robert Adam, and was first opened in 1415. The house now belongs to the Duke of Northumberland and is his family's London residence. The gardens were designed by Capability Brown.
