A view of Abingdon Old Gaol, probably published before the prison opened in 1812. Taken from the banks of the Thames (with an angler), it also shows Abingdon Bridge. On the opposite side is a wharf, with a barge, scale beam and crane. The gaol was built by Daniel Harris (c. 1761-1840), the Surveyor and Gaoler of Oxford Prison, and Sir Jeffry Wyatville RA (1766-1840), architect who worked on alterations for both Chatsworth House and Windsor Castle. It was largely superseded by the larger prison at Reading (1844) and closed in 1868. After being used as a grain store, slum dwellings and a leisure centre, it has now been converted into flats.

A scene depicting Lord Fulwar Craven, on horse back, in profile to the right, dressed in hunting costume with a view of Ashdown House in the background. The house was built by William Earl Craven (supposedly for Elizabeth of Bohemia, sister of Charles I, but she died before construction was started). It was gifted by the family to the National Trust in 1956 and is now tenanted by Pete Townsend of 'The Who', who has undertaken a substantial renovation. Another attendant to the hunt is also on a horse, behind to the left. A huntsman with a dead hare is standing before him, with two greyhounds and a smaller horse. Fulwar Craven, 4th Baron Craven, was an English nobleman and sportsman who was educated at Rugby School and Magdalen College, Oxford. He was famously fond of racing and hunting, hunting on his Berkshire estates at Hamstead Marshall and Ashdown Park, keeping his own stud of racehorses and founding a racecourse at Lambourn. He and his brother William founded the Craven Hunt.

View of Blenheim House in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Following his victory at the Battle of Blenheim (known on the Continent as the Second Battle of Höchstädt) during the war of the Spanish Succession in 1704, the commander John Churchill, first duke of Marlborough was given land and £240,000 to build a palace as a gift from Queen Anne and the nation. Work on Blenheim Palace began the following year, to designs by Sir John Vanbrugh, although it was not completed until 1733, eleven years after Marlborough's death. He was commemorated by the 'Column of Victory' seen in the middle-ground of this print, which shows Marlborough dressed as a Roman general.

Fawley Court is a country house standing on the banks of the Thames just to the north, at Fawley. Perhaps a separately-issued print; the Henley publishers of this print also issued 'The Henley guide. The gothic shine of Frithuswith (c. 650 - 727), patron saint of both Oxford and Oxford University, in Christ Church. Daughter of the a Mercian sub-king called Dida of Eynsham, Frithuswith was abbess of the Oxford nunnery. A stained glass window Edward Burne-Jones, showing her hiding from an unwanted suitor, is near her shrine.

The University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford. The south porch, seen here, was built in 1637 and designed by Nicholas Stone, master mason to Charles I. It is a highly eccentric baroque porch with spiral columns supporting a curly pediment framing a small niche with a statue of the Virgin and Child, underneath a gothic fan vault.
