Asgill House (formerly Richmond Place), a Grade I-listed Palladian villa built 1757-8 by Sir Robert Taylor for Sir Charles Asgill, who was Lord Mayor of London in 1761-2. Although it was restored to its original appearance in 1970, which involved removing the Victorian extensions, nothing could be done to remove Richmond Railway Bridge which crosses the Thames nearby.

William Westall (1781 - 1850) was a British topographical draughtsman and engraver. He became an Associate Member of the Royal Academy in 1812. He was the younger brother of the painter and illustrator Richard Westall.

This is actually Barnes looking from Mortlake, with the bay window to the house which later became the residence of the composer Gustav Holst. The White Hart extreme left. From "A Collection of One Hundred Views In England and Wales", made after he turned from engraver to print publisher in 1767. The first collection was issued in 1770, and included some plates by printmakers other than himself.

In 1841 boats wrecked at Brentford included two from Tipton (Staffs.) loaded with coal, two others from Tipton with coal and peas, two from Bloxwich (Staffs.) with hoop iron, and two from Stourbridge (Worcs.) with wheat. There were also three large coal barges at Brentford End, five large barges with wheat and linseed, and a barge with slate and stone from Nuneaton (Warws.); other craft came from Wolverhampton, Brierley Hill (Staffs.), and Tipton.

This particular sketch was made on July 27th 1835, a date that falls within the visit which Constable paid to George Constable at Arundel or his subsequent journeys to accompany Maria to and from the Fishers' house at Kingston.

A view across the River Thames towards Chiswick and Chiswick House; town in the distance, boats on the water, and figures and cattle on the river bank. This Palladian villa was completed in 1729 during the reign of George II and designed by Lord Burlington, Richard Boyle (1694-1753). Handel lived with the family for two years when he arrived in England in 1712. From "A Collection of One Hundred Views In England and Wales". John Boydell's 'Collection of Views' was made after he turned from engraver to print publisher in 1767. The first collection was issued in 1770, and included some plates by printmakers other than himself.

Foots Cray Place in Sidcup, Kent, soon after it was built. Panoramic landscape of the grounds (including the artificial canal Cleeve commissioned in the background) with group of figures in foreground experimenting with a telescope. Classical 18th century image. This Palladian house was built for the petwerer and financial writer Bourchier Cleeve in around 1754, probably to the designs of Isaac Ware. It waas built by Kent Education Committee for use as a museum but destroyed by fire in October 1949. The grounds are now a park, Foots Cray Meadows, where the stables of the old house still stand.

A copy of Rigaud's 'Prospect of Hampton Court from the Garden Side', published 1736, etched by Bartholomew Rocque (d.1767), brother of mapmaker John Rocque. Bartholomew's main interest was gardening and he owned a farm in Waltham Green that is marked on his brother's map of London. In 1736 John had published an estate plan of Hampton Court: this was perhaps intended as a companion piece.
A comparison with a proof in the Royal Collection (RCIN 702881) suggests this example lacks c.10cm of image on the left and 1cm on the right.

A series of views of the exterior of Hampton Court Palace, drawn by John Spyers (c.1731-98). Born into a family of nurserymen in Twickenham, Spyers is believed to have surveyed Horace Walpole's gardens at Strawberry Hill for the family, before starting to work for Capability Brown in 1764. While Brown was Chief Gardener at Hampton Court Spyers compiled two albums of watercolours of the palace and Bushy Park which Catherine the Great of Russia purchased for 1,000 roubles in 1778. The albums were rediscovered at the beginning of this century and were loaned to Hampton Court for an exhibition in 2016. Spyers publishing this set and a similar series of local gentlemen's houses in 1786, both aquatinted by Francis Jukes (1747-1812). When he died (in apartments at the palace) he was described as 'Surveyor of Hampton Court'.

A large and impressive view of Hampton Court Palace, looking down over the ornamental gardens to the East Front, the Tudor palace behind. To the right is the maze, commissioned by William III. The view was probably engraved by Jan Kip and first published in David Mortier's monumental 'Nouveau Theatre de la Grande Bretagne' (1708-13), republished by John Smith in 1724.

After Garrick died in 1779, his wife Eva continued to live in the villa until her death at the age of 98 in 1822. After Mrs Garrick died a sale of pictures and some of the furniture took place. Mrs Garrick's solicitor, Thomas Carr, bought the estate and tried to keep everything as it had been in Garrick's time. He and his wife showed visitors round and even installed a replica statue in the Temple in the grounds (at left). Published in a series of views of important English houses.

Hampton House on the Thames at Hampton, Middlesex, formerly the residence of David Garrick. Capability Brown advised on the layout of the gardens. After Garrick died in 1779, his wife Eva continued to live in the villa until her death at the age of 98 in 1822. She had difficulty in keeping the house in repair. After Mrs Garrick died in 1823 a sale of pictures and some of the furniture took place. Many of Garrick's books also went to the British Museum to form an important part of the British Library's collection of early plays. Mrs Garrick's solicitor, Thomas Carr, bought the estate and tried to keep everything as it had been in Garrick's time. He and his wife showed visitors round and even installed a replica statue in the Temple in the grounds (to left). The seat of the Hon. Colonel Charles Fitzroy (1737-97), 1st Baron Southampton. The estate, also known as Fitzroy Farm and Fitzroy Lodge, is rumoured to have been landscaped by Capability Brown as a ferme ornée. The Morning Chronicle of 21st September 1781 stated: 'The lands about the farm lie with the most waving surfaces, and in the prettiest shapes imaginable: they are laid out by Brown, who has also built the little lodge which adds much to the decoration of the scene'.
