Bartholomew Fair is depicted in a frying pan held above a fire by a huge horned demon with a toasting fork. Two imps hold up scrolls listing the 'Amusements of the People', including 'Drunkenness, Riot, Robbery, Rascality', more demons on top left. A tent has large advert for "Wild Beasts". An attack on the lawlessness of Bartholomew Fair, before an 1840 ban on exhibitions sent it into decline, ceasing completely by 1855.

A fence covered with overlapping bills, positioned to be read for humourous effect. An example reads ''Her Majesty's most gracious Pardon will be Granted to any Person who will / Abuse or in any way ill use / The New Police''. This example differs from the usual 'Cross Readings' by having an illustrated satire about bills in each corner. The one bottom left combines racism with an advert for another of the the publisher's products, 'Dawson's Ink. An actor reads an advert for the ink, which is described as 'a beautiful rich black which will never fade'; he exclaims 'Never!! I did try it once when I played Othello and have been a confirmed black ever since'.

A moralistic plate, promoting temperance and good education, the title having been lifted from Proverbs 22:6 (King James Bible). On each side are three scenes comparing the plight of the children of drunkards to those of teetotalers.

Five [of 6] etchings with engraving, printed from two plates, one with 18th century watermark; totals c. 260 x 370mm (10¼ x 14½"). Some spotting.
Reversed and reduced copies of Hogarth's famous series, probably originally published with the consent of Mr William Hogarth' by Thomas Bakewell. Hogarth is known to have given Bakewell permission to reproduce his "Rake" set to counter cheap plagaries: Bakewell sold his versions for 2s. 6d, significantly cheaper than the two guineas for the originals. Parker reissued the 'Rake' set in 1786, now with the consent of Hogarth's widow, Jane overprinted with the same decorative borders at the sides. The missing plate is Plate I, showing Moll Hackabout's arrival in London.
Not in either BM Satires or Paulson. The Wellcome Collection has three, 38333i, 38334i &38335i.

A duke and duchess take tea with a clergyman, although both are distracted. The duke fondles a servant girl as a black page slips the duchess a letter from her lover. A valet keeps a tradesman with a bill away. A monkey sits on the floor reading 'A Dissertation on Winding up the Clock by Tristram Shandy'. From a set of four. The paper suggests a 19th century impression.

Seven [of 8] etchings with engraving, printed from two plates, totals c. 270 x 370mm (10¾ x 14½"). Plates 1 & 6 trimmed to plate at bottom.
Reversed and reduced copies of the first states of Hogarth's famous series, originally published 'with the consent of Mr William Hogarth' by Thomas Bakewell in 1735, the same year as Hogarth's original publication. Hogarth gave permission for this set to counter cheap plagaries: Bakewell sold his set for 2s. 6d, significantly cheaper than the two guineas for the originals. This posthumous edition (now with the consent of Hogarth's widow, Jane) are overprinted with decorative borders at the sides. The missing plate is 3, 'Revelling with Harlots'.

Pair of satires. In the first a bearded man in a top hat, pulls a chain gang of mustachio'd men into a barber's to be shaved. In the second, the clean-shaven men rebel and kick the barber out the door, with one man changing the sign to read 'dis-Established'.

The Duke of Wellington sits on a dining chair, his feet on two more, selecting the new Tory Govenment in 1834 from a group of six unkept and uncooth men, Wellington declined to become prime minister, standing aside for Robert Peel. However Peel was in Italy, so Wellington acted as interim leader for three weeks in November and December 1834. Wellington is reading "Rookwood: a Romance" by William Harrison Ainsworth. It was one of the most successful novels of the 19th century but has been eclipsed by the works of Charles Dickens.

A satire of the recent change of government from Whig (under William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne, the last Prime Minister to be sacked by a monarch) to Tory (under Robert Peel), taking the form of a service at a funeral, with a speaker/minister and respondant, praying to William IV for deliverance. The satire is not partisan: the Speaker says 'although we despise the Whigs, yet do we utterly detest the Tories'.
