A draughtsman with his hat on, sat at his raised drawing table looking away, possibly towards his subject matter; a candlelit-lamp attached to the desk at top left. His hand poised over the table and paper ready to draw. To his left: tools and various stones. The early stages of copying. Johann-Jakob Haid (1704-1767), pupil of Reidinger, belonged to a famous German family of portraitists and engravers based in Augsburg.

A portrait of Edward Bright (1721-50), a grocer from Maldon, Essex, famed for his corpulence. Engraved and published by Johann Jakob Haid (1704 - 1767), mezzotinter and founder of a big publishing house in Augsburg, in collaboration with his son. This image was copied from the 1750 mezzotint by James McArdell after David Ogborne.

Five portraits, four untitled women and a man titled 'Le Baiser Rendu' (The received kiss). Published by Haid and Son; Johann Jakob Haid (1704-1767), the German painter and engraver, and founder of the big publishing house 'J.J. Haid'; and his son Johann Elias Haid (1736-1809) the German engraver, mezzotinter and publisher in Augsburg; son and pupil of Johann Jakob. These are possibly illustrations to Claude Joseph Dorat's (1734-1780) 1770s series of poems called 'Les Baisers'. Haid was a well-known publisher of popular subjects, these ones illustrating the magical power of the kiss

Johan Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741), German apothecary and botanist, aged 54 so dating the portrait to 1737. Weinmann established a botanical garden in Regensburg and published botanical works, most notably the eight-volume florilegium 'Phytanthoza iconographia' (1737-45), illustrated with fine mezzotint plates. Engraving by Johann Jakob Haid (1704-67), one of the engravers employed on the florilegium, after a portrait by Johann Leonhard Hirschmann (1672-1750), artist and printmaker who studied in the studio of Sir Godfrey Kneller as a young man.
