A portrait of Angelica Catalani (1782 - 1849) in Egyptian costume. Half-length in oval, three-quarters to right but looking to front, wearing headdress, drop earrings and a dress with decorative bands at the neck, including a 6 leaf clover on her breasts. Catalini was an Italian opera singer, a soprano of nearly three octaves in range. Its unsurpassed power and flexibility made her one of the greatest bravura singers of all times. She also worked as a singing teacher. Her pupils included Laure Cinti-Damoreau and Fanny Corri-Paltoni.

Portrait of Marshal Kutusov, Prince of Smolensk (1745 - 1813), Russian supreme commander during the Napoleonic Wars. In profile to left, with short wavy hair, wearing a military coat with epaulettes, three stars and a sash; in an oval. The same portrait was used to decorate a wine glass made by the Imperial Glassworks of St Petersburg, in the same year. For the 'Print lately come from Germany' from which this was presumably engraved, see ref. 22543

Isaac Milner (1750-1820), Natural philosopher and Dean of Carlisle. He was a mathematician, inventor, and President of Queens' College, Cambridge, and Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. He was instrumental in the 1785 religious conversion of William Wilberforce, and a great supporter of the Abolitionists' campaign against the slave trade. NPG: D38419.

Sir Thomas Musgrave (1737-1832), Colonel of the 76th Regiment of Foot and Governor General of Gravesend & Tilbury Fort. He fought and was wounded at the Battle of Pelham New York on October 18th, 1776. At the Battle of German-Town October 4th, 1777, he saved the day by throwing himself with 5 companies into Chew's stone house, where he successfully held the American forces at bay until the repulsed British columns could rally. The Americans were compelled to abandon the field on which they came so near to success.

Venus lying naked on a couch with Cupid to left, sheilding himself with his bow from a shower of coins that fall from above. Adaptation by Josiah Boydell (1752 - 1817) of the famous image by Titian (1489/90 - 1576). Nephew of John, and partner and later sole proprietor of the firm, Josiah is named on several prints as an intermediary draughtsman.

Ludwig Adolph Peter, Prince Wittgenstein (1769 - 1843) was a Russian Field Marshal distinguished for his services in the Napoleonic wars. He was promoted to Major in 1793 of the Ukrainian light cavalry regiment. He fought with the unit in the Kosciuszko Uprising. In 1800 he took command of the Mariupolski Hussars Regiment and lead the Russian army in numerous campaigns. In 1828 he was appointed to command the Russian army in the war against Turkey, but ill health soon obliged him to retire. In 1834 the King of Prussia gave him the title of Fürst (Prince) zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.
