Thomas Philip de Grey, 2nd Earl of Grey (1781-1859), known as Lord Grantham. He was a Tory politician who in 1834 was appointed to the Privy Council, whilst still holding the office as first Lord of the Admiralty. He served as yeomanry aide-de-camp to William IV and a similar position under Queen Victoria. From 1841 to 1844 he served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.

Charles Grey, second Earl Grey (1764-1845), prime minister. Grey was the leader of the Whigs from 1806 to 1834. He led the party through the triumph of the Reform Act which extended the vote to the middle classes and gave representation to Britain's growing industrial towns. A follower of Fox, Grey had argued for constitutional reform since entering Parliament in 1786. He was an ardent supporter of Catholic emancipation and presided over the act to abolish slavery in all British-controlled territories (1833). Earl Grey tea is named after his fondness for it. Engraved after the 1828 portrait by Thomas Lawrence (private collection).

He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1804.

A three-quarter length portrait of John Mitchell Keble (1807 - 1857), English scholar and historian, and the son of John Keble, vicar of Coln St Aldwyns, Gloucestershire. He is notable for his major contribution to the history of the Anglo-Saxons and philology of the Old English language. One of the leaders of the Oxford Movement. Keble College Oxford was named after him.

Portrait of Charles Lambton (1818-31) as a boy, wearing a velvet suit with frilled white shirt, lying on rocks with one hand behind his head. The son of John George Lambton, Ist Earl of Durham, he did not reach adulthood. Commonly known as "The Red Boy", and the first painting on a British postage stamp "Harrison 4d" 1967. Sir Thomas Lawrence exhibited the original painting at the Royal Academy in 1825 (no.288) as 'Portrait of the Son of J.G.Lambton Esq.'

Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), after an unfinished self-portrait now in the Royal Academy (No 03/950). The portrait was commissioned by George IV, who is supposed to have suggested that Lawrence wear 'the costume of his Doctor-of-laws gown' without the cap as 'we shall not recognise you without your bald head'. However the artist shows himself in everyday clothing.

Sir Thomas Munro (1761-1827), 1st Baronet of Linderits, Scottish soldier and statesman. In India he fought against Haidar Ali (1780-1783), Tipu Sultan (1790-1792), and the the Pindari War (1817). He died of cholera.

Full-length portrait of Henry John Temple, 3rd Viscount Palmerston (1784-1865), standing in his study, left hand resting on papers. The painting was executed c.1850, when Palmerston was Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, five years before his first term as Prime Minister. After Palmerston's death his widow insisted on the face being replaced with one from an earlier portrait by Partridge, so this mezzotint is the only record of the original image. The painting is now in Parliament's art collection. Palmerston attanded St John's College, Cambridge (1803-6)

A characteristically sober-looking Queen Victoria (1819 - 1901), reigned 1837-1901. Massachusetts-born philanthropist George Peabody (1795 - 1869) was offered a baronetcy and the grand cross of the Bath by the Queen, both of which he declined. During Peabody's absence in America in 1869 the Prince of Wales unveiled a bronze statue of him by Story, erected on the east side of the Royal Exchange, and the city of London conferred its freedom upon him. Oxford University also made him a D.C.L. in 1867. After Lowes Cato Dickinson (1819 - 1908).
