Half portrait in a roundel of Field Marshal Jeffery Amherst 1st Baron Amherst (1717-1797) who served in the British Army and as Commader-in-Cheif of the Forces in many of Britains military campains, including the Seven Years War, the American War of Independence and the French Revolutionary War. Amherst advocated for the extermination of the Native American population and encouraged the spread of smallpox through infested blankets distributed to native settlements. Amhurst also served as the first British Governor General in Canada after the defeat of the French.

Half portrait in a roundel of Admiral George Anson, 1st Baron Anson (1697-1762) an admiral of the British Navy, who also served as an MP in Yorkshire between 1744 ad 1747 and was elevated to Lord Anson, Baron of Soberton in 1747. Following a prestigious career which included a circumnavigation of the world and the defeat of the French fleet at the Battle of Cape Finisterre, Amherst was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty between 1751 and 1756 and again between 1757 until his death.

Head and shoulders directed to left, head in profile, with a small beard and moustache, wearing a crown with a ribbon at the nape, a cloak of spotted animal fur tied in a bow over armour; in an oval with a plaque below showing spiked shields, spears and scimitar. Attila the Hun (406-453) was leader of the Hunnic Empire, which stretched from the Ural River to the Rhine River and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea. During his reign he was one of the most feared enemies of the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. A portrait in an oval of French naval commander and privateer Jean Bart (1650 - 1702). Jean Bart was born in Dunkirk in 1650 and almost certainly spoke Flemish, at that time the native language in the region. When war broke out between France and the United Provinces in 1672, Bart entered the French service and became captain of one of the Dunkirk privateers. In this capacity he displayed such astonishing bravery, that Louis XIV sent him on a special mission to the Mediterranean, where he gained great distinction. He went on to achieve his greatest successes during the Nine Years' War (1688–1697).

Edmund Burke (1729-1797) was an Anglo-Irish statesman, author, orator, political theorist and philosopher who served for many years in the House of Commons as a member of the Whig party. In the words of Winston Churchill he was 'perhaps the greatest man that Ireland has produced'. He is remembered for his support of the cause of the American Revolutionaries and for his later opposition to the French Revolution. He was thus seen as a leading figure within the conservative faction of the Whig parts, which he dubbed the "Old Whigs", in opposition to the pro-French-Revolution "New Whigs", led by Charles James Fox. best remembered for "A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful" (1757) and "Reflections on the Revolution in France" (1790), a founding text for modern political conservatism; its reference to "the swinish multitude" was frequently quoted in radical contexts.

Portrait in profile of Frederick II (1712 – 1786), in a jacket bearing the insignia of the Order of the Black Eagle. Frederick was a King of Prussia (1740 – 1786) from the Hohenzollern dynasty. In his role as a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire, he was Frederick IV (Friedrich IV) of Brandenburg. He became known as Frederick the Great. In oval, with vignette of Frederick reviewing his troops below. From the 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature ... Embellished by ... engravings. Half porrtait in profile, set in a roundel of Frederick II of Prussia (1712-1786). Due to Frederick II's many military victories he became known as Frederick the Great. As well as his military prowess, Frederick II was a proponent of enlightened absolutism, modernised Prussian bureaucracy and reformed the judicial system. A great supporter of the French Enlightenment, Frederick often corresponded with its key figures, most notably Voltaire.

George III (1738-1820), King of Great Britain and King of Ireland, until the union of the two countries at the start of 1801. He was also Duke and Prince-Elector of Brunswick-Luneburg in the Holy Roman Empire until in 1814 he was promoted to King of Hanover. Allegorical scene below.

George IV leaving for Scotland, engraved for the Stationer's Almanack. The Stationers' Company had published the Stationers' Almanack since 1747, a single-sheet which consisted of calendar text set out beneath an engraved headpiece that recorded significant events of the preceding year. At the end of the year, the image would often be separated from the calendar and kept. Very atmospheric view.

George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759), composer, in an oval. Born in Saxony, Handel settled in London in 1712 where for nearly fifty years he poured out opera, oratorios, concertos and occasional music. His Messiah, first performed in Dublin in 1742, became a national institution within his lifetime. After Thomas Hudson (1701 - 1779).

Catherine Hayes (1690 - 1726) murdered her husband with the help of two other men, Thomas Wood and Thomas Billings in 1726. Hayes and her accomplices got the husband drunk, killed him and disposed of his body. Hayes was one of the last women ever to be burned at Tyburn. Hippocrates (c.460 BC - c.380 BC), Greek physician, teacher, and 'the father of medicine'. He searched for rational explanations to illness rather than religious or magical ones, founded a school in Cos and (allegedly) wrote an ethical oath that is still taken today by medical practitioners. One of a number of stipple heads of Kings and Queens of similar format printed on quarto sheets, by Chapman, published by J. Wilkes, 1795-1810. They probably appeared as illustrations to the 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature ... Embellished by ... engravings. Compiled ... by John Wilkes'.
