The Ambassador tea clipper sailed between the chinese port of Fuchow and London, once doing so in 108 days (1872). The beached skeleton of the ship is in Estancia San Gregorio, Chile, where it was declared a national monument in 1973. It is one of the few surviving tea clippers. The clipped weighed about 692 tons and was made of steel and teak wood, making it very fast and sleek vessel.

De Witte's preparatory drawing is in the Staatliche Grafische Sammlung, Munich. De Witte worked with Vasari in Florence before joining the court in Munich.

View of Amboise in central France, with bridge across the river Loire and various figures at work. The city is known for containing the last residence of Leonardo da Vinci. Engraved by Captain William Baillie (1723-1810). Baillie retired from the army in 1761 with the rank of Captain and thereafter devoted himself to printmaking and dealing. He specialised in imitating old-master drawings and prints, using a variety of printmaking techniques. After Lambert Doomer (1624-1700), Dutch artist who owned several volumes of Rembrandt drawings. Rembrandt was a passion of Baillie's which may have led him to engrave this scene.

A marine scene showing the Schooner Yacht 'America' sailing off the coast of the Isle of Wight in 1851. HMY Victoria and Albert was a twin-paddle steamer used as the royal yacht. For winning the race, 'America', built by a syndicate of members of the New York Sailing Club, was awarded the '£100 Cup'. Now known as 'The America's Cup' after the first winner, it is the oldest international sporting trophy.

The upper central portrait depicts Manco Cápac. In Inca mythology, Manco Cápac the first king of the Kingdom of Cuzco. Cuzco was a small kingdom in the Andes that began as a small city-state founded by the Incas around the 12th century. In time, through either warfare or peaceful assimilation, it began to grow and was succeeded by the Inca Empire. Manco Cápac is thought to have reigned until about 1230, though some put his death at 1107. Plate to the Gentleman's Magazine.

Manco Cápac, founder of the Incas, supposedly sent to the earth by the sun god. Sinchi Roca, came second, and is said to have imported soil to improve the feritility of the Valley of Cuzco. Lloque Yupanqui, is said to have established the public market in Cuzco and built the Acllahuasi. Mayta Capac, fourth to ascend, is said to have been a great warrior who conquered as far as Lake Titicaca, Arequipa and Potosi. Capac Yupanqui, is said to have been the first Inca to conquer territory outside the valley of Cuzco. Inca Roca, sixth to ascend, is said to have conquered the Chancas, as well as establised yachaywasi, schools for teaching nobles.

11 drawings and watercolours, dimensions of each between 130 x 180mm (5 x 7") and 170 x 285mm (6¾ x 11¼"). Mostly glued to album sheets; some staining, wrinkling etc.
Interesting collection of late 19th century topographical and martime subjects including the Great Falls of the Passaic River (Paterson, New Jersey), a view of the Hudson river from Newburgh, the South Battery on Governor's Island in New York, Turnabout Island (Kiushan Tao) east of China, gold digging near Yantai in China, and Torre Abbey Sands near Torquay in England, along with ships including one sailing from New York to England. Signatures on some of the works suggest they may all have been by members of the Walter family.

An unused envelope with a scene of a group of slaves escaping from the 'First Families of Virginia', offering to help Major Benjamin Franklin Butler (1818-93) as workers. Butler gained fame for refusing to return escaped slaves, designating them as contraband of war. After the war, in the House of Representatives, he wrote the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 and co-authored the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1875.

Twenty-one pages of engraved-text description of the American colonies (fourteen with illustrations), including New York, New England, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Carolina, published in George Bickham's 'The British Monarchy or a Chorographical Description of all the Dominions Subject to the King of Great Britain'. One of Bickham's interests was calligraphy, so the text is engraved with great verve.
