Engraving. Mounted on an album page. Plate 314 x 186mm. 12¼ x 7¼". Some staining in the margins.
Anne of Cleves (1515-1557) was a German noblewoman and the fourth wife of Henry VIII of England and as such she was Queen of England from 6 January 1540 to 9 July 1540. The marriage was never consummated, and she was not crowned queen consort. When her health began to fail, Anne was allowed by Mary I to live at Chelsea Old Manor, and later died on 16 July 1557. She also has the distinction of being the last of Henry's wives to die.

London, Published Septr. 6, 1787, by R. Pollard, Engraver, No.15, Braynes Row, Spa Fields.
Pair of aquatints with etching, each c.327 x 275mm.
A fine pair of prints that illustrate the popular Elizabethan ballad 'The Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green'. This tells the story of Henry de Montfort, a son of Simon de Montfort. He was wounded and lost his sight in the Battle of Evesham in 1265, and was nursed to health by a baroness, and together they had a child named Besse (commemorated in Besse Road in London's East End). He became the Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green and used to beg at the crossroads. The story of how he went from landed gentry to poor beggar became hugely popular in the Tudor era, and was revived by Percy's 'Reliques of Ancient English Poetry', published in 1765. The legend came to be incorporated into the arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green in 1900. Published by Robert Pollard (c.1755 - 1838) after his own designs.

Engraved by R. Cooper 9 Upper Pratt Place Camden Town from an original Picture by Hans Holbein in the possession of M. Wocker at Basle.
London, Pubd. May 1st. 1824, by R. Ackermann, 101 Strand.
A very fine stipple, etching and engraving with large margins. Plate 400 x 279mm. 15¾ x 11".
According the British Museum, this item is not listed by Ganz or Rowlands among the paintings or drawings by Holbein. The identification as Anne Boleyn may also be incorrect, although the sitter bears some resemblance to the woman depicted in a drawing attributed to Holbein and thought to be of Anne in the Royal Collection. Anne Boleyn (c.1500-1536) was second wife to Henry VIII, and mother to Elizabeth I.

A view of George IV's extravagant banquet held at Westminster hall after his coronation. The interior of Westminster Hall had been subdivided by wooden partitions to serve as courtrooms and these all had to be demolished to create the large space required for the coronation banquet, which required galleries for 2,934 spectators and 1,268 diners seated at 47 tables, some of which had to be sited in other parts of the palace. A temporary triumphal arch was erected at the north end of the hall in the style of a medieval castle. In accordance with the vogue for Romanticism and with his own taste for flamboyant clothes, George insisted that the participants should dress in Tudor and Stuart period costumes.
