Rare & scarce etching with mezzotint. 125 x 90mm (5 x 3½"), on wove paper, very large margins.
A beared old man with staff. Kauffman began making etchings in 1762, disposing of her plates when preparing to leave England in 1781. Many were bought by John Boydell, who issued them with added aquatint. BM: 1868,1212.140, probably a Boydell issue but before he added 'J.B.' to the plate.
