He was MP for West Looe at the 1802 & 1806 general elections, before leaving Parliament and serving as the Clerk in Ordinary to the Privy Council from January 1812 until his death in 1830. From Sir G. Nayler's "The Coronation of His Most Sacred Majesty King George the Fourth, solemnized in the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter Westminster upon the Nineteenth Day of July MDCCCXXI". Nayler only published two of the five proposed parts (1823 & 1827); it was completed by George Henry Bohn and issued in 1837.

A pair of engravings showing the Coronation and Dinner for George IV; both have a lettered key of personages and key areas. George IV's coronation was a lavish and costly event, almost a year after he had become king. Caroline of Brunswick, the estranged wife, was prevented from entering the Abbey by prize fighters dressed as pages, hired personally by the King himself.

Representation of the royal procession on foot from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. In the centre is the 'Royal Central Pavilion' (seats three guineas each) and to the right the 'Platform and Amphitheatre' (two guineas). Bridge Street on the left and Gt. George St on the right are also identified. The published state had a key to the buildings above and the people below the scene. For published state see ref. 7327.

The Gold State Coach, used at the coronation of every British monarch since George IV, commissioned by George III in 1760 and completed in 1762. Weighing in at four tons, it is decorated with tritons and cherubs, with side panels painted by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (not shown here). Quotes from its passengers include: 'tossing in a rough sea' (William IV); 'distressing oscillation' (Victoria); 'one of the most uncomfortable rides I have ever had in my life' (George VI) 'horrible' and 'not very comfortable' (Elizabeth II). For Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee a new state coach was built.

A full length portrait of Roger Monk (d.1831) in the Tudor-style uniform of the Yeoman of the Guard (Beefeaters). A London businessman, he purchased a commission in the Guards, becoming Exon (equivalent to Corporal but in the Elizabethan meaning of a commissioned officer, similar to a captain) in 1805, holding the position until his death. Monk's uniform cost over £300 and was the last of its kind to be made for officers, being too expensive for the few ceremonial occasions for its use. Monk commissioned this oil, which now hangs in the hall of the Tallow Chandlers' Company, of which Monk had been master in 1826. www.yeomenoftheguard.co.uk/roger-monk

A very rare souvenir handkerchief commemorating the coronation of George V. Within a border of flags and leaves are portraits of George and Queen Mary, the Prince of Wales (Edward VIII), and figures prominent in the ceremony, including the old soldier Earl Roberts. The text gives an order of events and a list of 'The Bearers of the Kings' Regalia. Mrs S. Burgess specialised in these paper souvenirs in the early 20th century, based in York Place, off The Strand; proof-reading was not her strong point.

A very rare souvenir handkerchief commemorating the coronation of George V. Within a border of flags and leaves are portraits of George and Queen Mary and an itinerary. The East London Printing Company was founded by Alexander Bloom c.1896 in Whitechapel Road, moving to Houndsditch in 1908. Postcards were a large part of their output, both comic and topical. In 1911, the same year as the coronation, Bloom photographed the progress of the Sidney Street Siege, making postcards for boys to sell to queues outside West End Theatres, the most popular one being a portrait of Winston Churchill. The firm folded in the 1930s.
