Anvil, foaled in 1777 and described by 'A Review of the Turf' as 'ranked amongst the best stallions of the present day'. In 1793 Anvil was in Mr O'Kelly's stud at Edgware, at 10 guineas per mare.

A small girl balances a sugar cube on the nose of a dog much larger than her. The girl was one of the nine children of Charles Churchill (1823-1905) a City timber broker who bought Weybridge Park in 1863. Another of his children was the subject of Barber's 'In Disgrace'. This is from one of numerous child and dog paintings executed by Charles Burton Barber (1845-1894) towards the end of his life. He attained great success with his paintings of children with their pets; during his life he received commissions from Queen Victoria, and a number of his portraits are in the Royal Collection.
