A complete example of Zannetti's ''Frescoes by the most important Venetian Masters'', illustrating the remains of frescoes on the facades of buildings in Venice attributed to Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Zelotti and Veronese. Antonio Maria Zanetti the younger (1706-78) was librarian of the Biblioteca Marciana, the library of S Marco, Venice. The inclusion of the 'Memoria' indicates this is a posthumous edition.

Particularly old English dresses; after the designs of Holbein, Vandyke, Hollar and others, with an account of the authorities from which the figures are taken, and some short historical remarks on the subject. To which are added the habits of the principal characters on the English stage', published by Thomas Jefferys between 1757 - 1772.

A tall column, on the top of which is a book on which stands a lamb bearing a cross to which is attached a pennon with a St. George's Cross, the whole representing Religion. Two opposing bodies of clergy strain at with ropes; the bishops in lawn sleeves on the left, ministers in gowns on the right. Over the ministers hovers Beelzebub, pointing to the column and saying: "My Children that is not your God, but I am". The bishops, whose aim is to prevent the opposing party from pulling down the column, strain from the other side.

The fifth from a series of seven seascapes (plus frontispiece), 'Quelque port dee Meer' (Some Sea Harbours), first published by Danckert Danckerts in 1656 with several subsequent editions. Etched by Reinier Nooms (1623-67), Dutch painter and printmaker who signed his prints 'Zeeman' ('Seaman'). Nooms travelled widely as a sailor on Dutch merchant vessels in his early life, and his works include views of Tunis, Tripoli and Algiers as well as many European ports. He produced some 170 etchings which as well as seascapes include architecturally accurate renderings of Amsterdam.

Bust portrait in profile of a woman in rich classical dress, her hair dressed with a comb and with a jewelled band across her forehead; she is Zenobia (240 - after 274), a Syrian queen of the Palmyrene Empire, which encompassed the Roman provinces of Syria, Palestine, Egypt and large parts of Asia Minor. In 269, she conquered Egypt, expelling the Roman prefect, Tenagino Probus, whom she beheaded when he led an attempt to recapture the territory. She then proclaimed herself queen of Egypt. She ruled Egypt until 274, when she was defeated and taken as a hostage to Rome by Aurelian. Zenobia appeared in golden chains in Aurelian's military triumph parade. Impressed by Zenobia, Aurelian freed her and granted her an elegant villa in Tibur (modern Tivoli, Italy). She became a prominent philosopher, socialite and Roman matron. In a major engagement in the Great Turkish War (1683-99), Habsburg Imperial forces routed the Ottoman army as it crossed the river Tisa, as shown here. Engraving from the popular patriotic series depicting British naval achievements, 'England's Glory'. It was published to promote a pro-war (with Spain) agenda, and to undermine Prime Minister Robert Walpole's policy of avoiding military conflict, by William Rayner (1699 - 1761).

This print was made from a picture in the collection of Joseph Smith., English collector, patron and British Consul in Venice who commissioned several works from Zuccarelli.

His engraving of paintings by Zuccarelli may have resulted from his acquaintance with the artist's Venetian publisher Joseph Wagner.

Landscape with two figures and dog resting on right, horseman driving cows and goat on left, and Italianate buildings in background. The British Museum have an impression numbered '15' lower left (absent here). The Italian landscape painter Francesco Zuccarelli (1702-88) spent much of the 1750s and 1760s in England (he was a founder member of the Royal Academy). This engraving from one of his paintings is by Francis Vivares (1709-1780), one of the foremost landscape engravers of his time.

The Tempest: landscape with approaching storm, shepherd hurrying his flock and a woman reaching to help up another woman. Originally published as one of a pair (with The Calm) after the Italian landscape painter Francesco Zuccarelli (1702-88), who spent much of the 1750s and 1760s in England (he was a founder member of the Royal Academy). Like many engravings of the period, this was a collaboration between two printmakers: one specialising in landscape (William Byrne) and another specialising in figure engraving (Francesco Bartolozzi).

The first series, from which this plate is taken, shows the frescoes of the Sala dei Fasti, which celebrate the power of the Farnese family.
