Half-length portrait of John Hardman (fl. 1700's) within an oval frame, depicting the sitter with long hair and a moustache. He wears a hat, earring, neckcloth, and coat, together with two badges bearing the royal coat of arms. Hardman was not an agricultural labourer but personal chiropodist to the King William of Orange in early 18th century.

Two children are beside her, one reaching out with a stick to tickle her face. Another woman stands next to them, with basket, staff and a dog, pointing towards the town in the distance on the left. A man driving cattle along the bank behind them turns to look at the travellers. On watermarked laid paper, inscribed '3' upper right. After Francesco Zuccarelli (1702 - 1788)
