Plate 9 from Joseph Farington's (1747 - 1821) 'History of the River Thames', 1794, a two-volume publication including 76 aquatints. An exceptional panoramic view with figures and horses in a field in the foreground, and a coach passing in the centre. The Thames is winding in the middle distance to a bridge on the left with a view of London in the background, Battersea in the centre, Chelsea on the left, and St Paul's Cathedral on the horizon. The view is taken from the West Hill Estate, Wandsworth, first purchased, as part of the demesne of the manor of Downe, from the Duke of Bedford in 1759. John Anthony Rucker, a merchant originally from Hamburg, bought the estate in 1789, and all later owners added to the lands by purchase.

Humphry Repton's design for a dining room at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton which, despite having the same Mughal influences, was never implemented. Despite being primarily a landscape designer, Repton (1752-1818) was hired to remodel the Pavilion by the Prince Regent in 1805. The Prince's money problems caused the project to be shelved, but John Nash made use of Repton's proposals when he finally redeveloped the building from 1814.

Very rare aquatint. Sheet 500 x 615mm (19¾ x 24¼"). Trimmed within plate on three sides, repaired tear top left, a few signs of surface wear.
A picturesque view of the Causey Arch, a single-arched bridge built for a horse-drawn railway for transporting coal from Tanfield Coal works to the River Tyne. Built 1725-6 by stonemason Ralph Wood, it was the longest single-span bridge in the country with an arch span of 31 metres (102 ft), a record it held until 1756. Over 900 horse-drawn wagons crossed each day. In the 19th century, the wooden track was replaced with metal rails, and horses were replaced by stationary steam winding engines. The line closed in 1962 but the arch was restored in the 1980s for public use. Engraved by J.C. Stadler after a watercolour by the Newcastle artist Joseph Atkinson.

Authorised by the Magna Carta to sit in a fixed location, the Common Pleas sat in Westminster Hall for its entire existence, joined by the Exchequer of Pleas and Court of King's Bench. Published in Ackermann's famous work, the 'Microcosm of London', the figures were drawn by the famous caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson and the architecture by Augustus Pugin.
