The three eldest children of Charles I, standing with two spaniels. On the left is Mary (mother of William III) and on the right is Charles II, both dressed as adults. In the centre is James II, still in skirts as was fashion for infant boys. Van Dyck's first version of this painting (probably commission by their mother, Henrietta Maria) showed both boys in skirts, but Charles I thought his heir should be in more respectful adult clothing. In 1819 this version can be seen hanging in the Second Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace in 'Pyne's Royal Residences'; it is now in the Queen's Gallery, Windsor Castle.

David Garrick (1717-1779) caught between the Muses of Tragedy (Melpomene) and Comedy (Thalia). The original painting (now in Waddesdon Manor, owned by the National Trust and managed by the Rothschild Foundation) was completed in 1761 and first engraved by Edward Fisher in mezzotint the following year. This version, engraved by Richard Purcell under his pseudonym of Charles Corbutt, was one of at least fourteen mezzotint copies and pirates. Purcell was a native of Dublin and learned engraving from Brooks and Miller. He followed in the footsteps of McArdell and went to London, where he worked with Sayer copying the works of McArdell, Watson and others.
