Stipple by the designer, engraver and publisher of prints J. Peirson (fl.1798-1805), the printmaker's name spelt 'Pierson' in this instance. See Peirson's 1798 'Thursday or the Spell' for a print with the more common spelling, published by Le Petit on Suffolk Street, from which the publication line given for this print is derived. See BM 1871,0114.16 for 'Thursday or the Spell'

Hobnelia, a young woman, uses the garter of Lubberkin, a shepherd asleep beneath a tree, to cast a love spell. 'Shepherd's Week' was a series of six pastorals by John Gay, published 1714.
