In the foreground is Father Diego Ortiz who, having been accused of poisoning Incas, is being beaten to death with sticks. Behind is Vincente de Valverde, wearing the mitre of the Bishopric of Cusco, attacked with swords on Puná Island, near Guayaquil, Ecuador.
