A bust portrait of Indian-born author Sake Dean Mahomet (1759-1851). Mahomed was an Indian traveller, surgeon and entrepreneur who was the first Indian to have written a book in English. He also established 'shampooing' baths in Great Britain, where he offered therapeutic massage, and was one of the most notable early Indian immigrants to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

One of the frontispieces to the Lottery Edition of Dr Robert Thornton's 'Temple of Flora'. In an attempt to bring in revenue to pay for the publication of his large botanical plates, Thornton had this small folio edition produced and held a lottery with them as prizes. This too failed and Thornton became destitute.
