Two women in ornate dress, lean on the ledge, against an oriental background. Minarets in background imply Damascus or Persia, the origin of the rose. One holds a peacock feather fan and damask roses in the other. Roses used for perfume. Lithographic printers William Kohler and L.M. Lefevre were in business together at 52 Newman Street, London circa 1833-1835. Kohler set up on his own by 1838 at the latest, leaving Lefevre to trade as L.M. Lefevre.

Satire of European monarchs: A hand holds the scales of justice, with Queen Victoria (1819-1901) on the left outweighing six European kings, including Ernest Augustus King of Hanover (1771-1851), Louis Philippe I (1773-1850), and Leopold I (1790-1865). After S W Fores's death in 1838 the business was continued as Messrs Fores by his sons, George Thomas Fores (1806-58) and Arthur Blücher Fores (1814-83), who moved from satirical to sporting prints. It continued to be run by the descendants of George Thomas Fores until well into the 20th century.

It was in 1790 that Robert Burns (1759-1796) wrote his poem "Tam o' Shanter", which tells the story of a man who stayed too long at a public house and witnessed a disturbing vision on his way home. This song suggests happiness, a future of marriage and love; it appeared a year later in 1791.

A panicking Prince Albert has fallen through the ice on the pond in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. Queen Victoria is attempting to pull him out, aided by a laughing lady-in-waiting ('Lady M_'), who says 'who would have thought His Royal Highness such a coward?'. In 1842 the Royal Humane Society presented Albert with a 'Life-Ladder', a ladder with wheels on one end, to be used in the event of accident at the royal skating parties on Virginia Water.

The flames can be seen through the window and door. To the right is scaffolding, which had already been erected for repairs. This print was published just two weeks after the fire.
