In 'Water' a group assist a fisherman with a net.

A view of La Rochelle, detailing the activity on the quayside. Plate 14 of the series 'Les Ports de France' after Joseph Vernet (1714 - 1789), a painter famous for his maritime scenes. This unfinished proof has no clouds, and has the artist's details on a trough and 'N.l 22' on a building, both erased for the published state. The original oil is in the 'Musée national de la Marine', a part of the Louvre until 1971.

Angelique, carried by angels, comes to rescue the magician Maugis from a rock on which he had been chained. One of a series of scenes from the 12th-century Old French chanson de geste 'Les Quatre Fils de Aymon', the four sons of Aymon who revolted against Charlemagne); Maugris was their cousin who built their castle Montessor on a peak overlooking the Meuse.

An allegorical monument to Sidney Godolphin, 1st Earl of Godolphin (c. 1645-1712). From Eugene Mac-Swiny's 'Tombeaux des Princes, Grand Capitaines et Autres Hommes Illustres, Qui ont fleuri dans la Grande-Bretagne'. Owen McSwiny, former manager of Drury Lane and the Haymarket Theatres, had travelled to Italy where he bought works of Italian painters, including Canaletto, to sell to English collectors. He also planned a series of historical pictures to decorate the Duke of Richmond's apartment at Goodwood, commemorating the deeds of famous Englishmen.

A view of the old harbour of Toulon, France. The busy port depicts a large number of figures in the foreground including traders and men leading cattle to the left. French naval ships are seen in the background, with smaller boats around the edges of the port. Plate 5 from a set of eighteen, form the series, 'Ports du Royaume. Ports de France.' These views of various ports of France are from a series of paintings by the French painter Joseph Vernet, executed between 1754 and 1765, commissioned by King Louis XV to promote the French navy. Upon completion, the total of fifteen paintings were exhibited in Paris in the Royal Academy's Painting and Sculpture Exhibition.
