Bust portrait of Isabella Burns (1771-1858) wearing a dark shawl and a lace bonnet tied with a dark bow under the chin; set within in an oval frame. Isabella (or Isobel) Burns, the youngest sister of poet Robert Burns, was the last surviving member of his immediate family. During her final sixteen years at Bridge House in Alloway, she welcomed visitors interested in Burns and provided many published insights into his life, character, and relationships. Isabella married John Begg.
