The titlepage of a series of 55 plates reproducing the frescos painted by Raphael in the Vatican Logge. It features a medallion portrait of Queen Christina of Sweden, surrounded by a decorative design feturing military trophies, cornucopiae and a pari of lions. Christina (1626-1689) became Queen of Sweden in 1632, but in 1654 she converted to Catholicism and abdicated, moving to Rome where she became a patron of the arts. She is one of only three women buried in the Vatican Grottoes under St Peter's Basilica.
