A scene of the Blue Nile with three hippopotamuses. From "Reise in Nordost Africa", an account of an expedition through Egypt, Sudan and Nubia along the Blue Nile in 1859-60 by Adalbert von Barnim (1841-60), accompanied by the physician Robert Hartmann. Adalbert, great-nephew of Prussian King Frederick William III, died on the expedition, aged only 19.
