Bust portrait of Isabella Burns (1771-1858) wearing a dark shawl and a lace bonnet tied with a dark bow under the chin; set within in an oval frame. Isabella (or Isobel) Burns, the youngest sister of poet Robert Burns, was the last surviving member of his immediate family. During her final sixteen years at Bridge House in Alloway, she welcomed visitors interested in Burns and provided many published insights into his life, character, and relationships. Isabella married John Begg.

A half-length portrait in oval of Sir George Hamilton (1643-1726) of Binne & Barton, wearing wig, neckcloth, and armour; coat of arms with motto 'Through God revived.' A pair to a portrait of his wife also by John Baptist de Medina (c.1659-1710).

Rare mezzotint on india, 400 x 430mm (15½ x 17"). Small tears to edges at bottom.
Almost full-length seated portrait of Margaret, Baroness Keith (1788-1867), seated facing forward on a draped chair, she rests her right elbow on a round table, her hand supporting her temple. Her left arm lies on the tabletop. She wears a turban with a long veil drawn forward and a dress adorned with a brooch centered beneath the collar. A curtain appears to the right of the scene. The Hon. Margaret Mercer Elphinstone married Charles, Comte de Flahaut, aide-de-camp to Napoleon, on 20th June 1817.

A portrait of Walter Scott early in his career, sitting on a stone wall, pencil and notebook in his hands, with Hermitage Castle and the mountains of Liddesdale in the background behind him and a dog at his feet. 1810 was the year his poem 'The Lady of the Lake' was published; his first novel, 'Waverley', did not appear until 1814.
