Very rare mezzotint, plate 355 x 255mm (14¼ x 10"), with huge margins. Light foxing and creasing mostly localised to margins.
Slightly over half-length portrait of Thomas Booth (c. 1755–1835), seated slightly right in an armchair before a curtain, facing front; wearing an open dark coat over a lighter double-breasted waistcoat and white neckerchief; his right arm resting on the chair arm, a snuff-box in his left hand. Booth was an iconic English stockbreeder who pioneered the improvement of Shorthorn cattle. Operating out of his estates at Killerby and Warlaby in North Yorkshire, he helped shape modern beef cattle breeding by focusing on meat-producing traits and strong constitutions. W50.
