Three satires of the Brabant Revolution (1789-90), which led to the brief overthrow of Habsburg rule. Above is Hendrik van der Noot (1731-1827), President of the National Congress of the United States of Belgium, standing on a plinth. On the left a lion pours gold down the gullet of an eagle. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685), the bishop of Valence turned the hospital of Valence into a prison for the Huguenots and put Guichard in charge of forcing them to convert to catholicism. The principal gardener of Louis XIV, he designed the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, as well as Chantilly, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Saint-Germain and Bicton Park Botanical Gardens in Devon.
