Slightly over half-length portrait of Thomas Booth (c. 1755–1835), seated slightly right in an armchair before a curtain, facing front; wearing an open dark coat over a lighter double-breasted waistcoat and white neckerchief; his right arm resting on the chair arm, a snuff-box in his left hand. Booth was an iconic English stockbreeder who pioneered the improvement of Shorthorn cattle. Operating out of his estates at Killerby and Warlaby in North Yorkshire, he helped shape modern beef cattle breeding by focusing on meat-producing traits and strong constitutions.

Above is Hendrik van der Noot (1731-1827), President of the National Congress of the United States of Belgium, standing on a plinth. On the left a lion pours gold down the gullet of an eagle. On the right an eagle and lion shake hands.

A sentimental scene of children laying wild flowers on the Monument to Grace Darling (1815-1842), in the churchyard of St Aidan's Church, Bamburgh, designed by Anthony Salvin. Darling was 22 years old when she risked her life in an open boat to help the survivors of the wrecked SS Forfarshire on 7 September 1838. With her father, she rowed from the Farne Islands for over a mile through raging seas to reach them. She died of tuberculosis three years later, aged only 26.

This satire was first published by Hannah Humphrey in 1817 (two years after the death of James Gillray, her long-time partner and collaborator), at end of the Napoleonic era, which allowed the English to tour abroad for the first time in a decade. It is likely the 'Proprietor' is her nephew George Humphrey, who took over the business at her death in 1818.

Erskine was a significant figure in British politics under Queen Anne and had been a member of the Privy Council. He expressed his loyalty to George I, but still lost his offices, causing him to join the Jacobite cause. In the 1715 revolt Erskine led the Scottish forces. Parliament issued a Writ of Attainder for treason against Mar in 1716.
