A view of Battersea Reach taken from Whistler's house in Chelsea looking out over the Thames towards Battersea railway bridge. The church in the centre is St Mary's, Battersea. One of the pioneers of the 19th century etching revival, Sir Francis Seymour Haden (1818 - 1910) married the sister of James McNeill Whistler (1834 - 1903) and became an important influence on the American-born etcher's style.
