A vue-d'optique of promenaders walking amongst elaborate ornamental trellises in the Rosenborg Castle Gardens. As the plate was designed to be viewed through a zograscope, an optical viewer that reversed the image, the title is repeated in reverse about the scene.

A view of Geneva from 'Souvenirs pittoresques du Général Bacler d'Albe', a collection of landscapes by Louis Albert Guislain Bacler d'Albe (1761-1824) drawn during the Napoleonic Wars. A soldier, cartographer and painter, Bacler d'Albe was a close companion of Napoléon Bonaparte from Toulon in 1793 until 1815. Napoleon's will tasked him with the education of his son Napoleon II.

Scarce engraving, 17th century watermark; 355 x 255mm (14 x 10"). Narrow margins, glue stains in top corners.
A French caricature of a pompous Spaniard with hooked moustache, ruff, tight embroidered jacket and trousers, sword and dagger at his waist, followed by his footman. Engraved by Abraham Bosse (c.1604-76) after a drawing by Pieter van Mol (1599-1650), as a pair to 'A Frenchman and his Footman'. At the time of publication France was at war with Spain in the Thirty Years' War.

The two sides of a medal printed onto one sheet, depicting Maria Anna (1606-46), daughter of Philip III of Spain, created during the 'Spanish Match', when she was a potential bride for Charles I of England. Instead she married King Ferdinand of Hungary-Bohemia, becoming Holy Roman Empress in 1637.

Half-length portrait of Russian statesman Prince Alexis Fedorovich Orlov (1787-1862), in dress uniform. He fought in the Napoleonic Wars, the Decembrist Revolt of 1825 and in the Turkish Wars of 1828-29, before turning to diplomacy. He was the Russian plenipotentiary at the Peace of Adrianople (1829); during the Crimean War (1854) he was sent to Vienna to bring Austria over the side of Russia, without success; and was one of the plenipoteniaries who concluded the Peace of Paris in 1856, the year he became Prince.
