Battle scene depicting British sailors, some brandishing swords, some with rifles, boarding a Man of War from a boat, a British naval officer falls from the boat into the waves. A marine action.

Lord Nelson at the Battle of the Nile, fought between British and French fleets at Aboukir Bay on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt from 1-3 August 1798. The large French convoy from Toulon and led by General Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated by the British forces led by Rear-Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson. This engraving was published in the 'Naval Chronicle'. Gold was the founder and publisher. See NMM: PAD4019. Parker 134: u.

German print showing the Battle of Scheveningen in 1653, the final battle of the first Anglo-Dutch war. The British had blockaded the Dutch coast and the battle was the result of Dutch attempts to lift the blockade. Both sides claimed victory- the English because of their greater losses to Dutch, and the Dutch because the blockade was lifted. Detailed key identifying ships and key personnel, including the ship of the Dutch commander Maarten Tromp (killed in battle) right foreground, and those carrying the English admirals George Monck and William Penn.
