A wonderful & rare country printseller's descriptive label. The label lists the variety of books, prints and stationary he stocks including account books, penknives, pens, sealing wax, inks, mathematical instruments, globes, maps, spectacles and fishing tackle 'Sold as Cheap as in London'.

Map of Athens showing the classical buildings surveyed made by James 'Athenian' Stuart and published in the 'Antiquities of Athens and Other Monuments of Greece' by Stuart & Nicholas Revett. To Stuart's dismay the local authorities would not allow him to survey the Acropolis because of an outbreak of plague. Stuart (1713-88) and Revett (1720-1804) joined Gavin Hamillton and Matthew Brettingham on a Grand Tour of Italy, the Balkans & Greece between 1748-55. On their return they started work on the 'Antiquities', which was the first accurate survey of the surviving classical buildings of Athens, with the first volume published in 1762, the second 1789, third 1794, fourth 1816 and fifth 1830 (nearly 80 years after the first). The work was incredibly influential, fueling the Greek revivalist style in 18th-century English architecture. The attention to detail was such that it attracted the attention of Hogarth, who satirised the work with his 'Five Orders of Periwig'. This map was published in Volume 4; the general map of Attica in the same volume was signed by Arrowsmith.

Edmund Waller (1606-1687) was a poet and wit of wavering political allegiance. He died at Hall Barn, the house he had designed and owned in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. In the Civil War, Waller first supported Parliament and then led a plot ('Waller Plot') to seize London for Charles I. He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was commuted to a fine of £10,000 and exile in 1644; was pardoned by Cromwell's influence; praised Cromwell in verse, but later rejoiced in his death.

Men rounding up colts for training, a reduced copy of one of a set of six scenes of horse training by Thomas Smith, originally engraved by Smith and W. Elliott in 1769. Known as 'Thomas Smith of Derby' (d.1767), Smith originally specialised in country house landscapes, but turned to sporting subjects later in his career. He was the father of John Raphael Smith (1751-1812), famed for his mezzotint engraving.

A view of Santiago, the capital of Chile, from Santa Lucía Hill in the centre of the city. The touches of original colour highlight flags including two Chilean flags and a Stars and Stripes, clothing on the staffage and one cactus. The plate fails to be a true panorama by about 3cm, the width of one end margin. It was published in the first volume of 'The U. S. Naval Astronomical Expedition to the Southern Hemisphere, During the Years 1849-'50-'51-'52', titled 'Chile: its geography, climate, earthquakes, government, social condition, mineral and agricultural resources, commerce, etc.', written by James Melville Gilliss, superintendant of the expedition.

A full-length seated portrait of essayist, politician and agriculturalist William Cobbett (1762-1835), in an apparently comfortable room, with writing desk and portrait of William Hampden. Cobett was an influential English radical journalist, pamphleteer, and farmer who championed the rights of the rural poor and advocated for parliamentary reform. Best known for his work Rural Rides, he opposed industrialization, high taxes, and corruption, becoming a voice for the working class and serving as a Member of Parliament for Oldham.

Map of the Greek island of Delos, published in the 'Antiquities of Athens and Other Monuments of Greece' by James 'Athenian' Stuart & Nicholas Revett. Delos had been the meeting place of the Delian League, a defensive group of Greek city states founded in 477BC but eventually overwhelmed and turned into the Athenian Empire by 454BC. Stuart (1713–88) and Revett (1720–1804) joined Gavin Hamillton and Matthew Brettingham on a Grand Tour of Italy, the Balkans & Greece between 1748-55. On their return they started work on the 'Antiquities', which was the first accurate survey of the surviving classical buildings of Athens, with the first volume published in 1762, the second 1789, third 1794, fourth 1816 and fifth 1830 (nearly 80 years after the first). The work was incredibly influential, fueling the Greek revivalist style in 18th-century English architecture. The attention to detail was such that it attracted the attention of Hogarth, who satirised the work with his 'Five Orders of Periwig'. This map was published in Volume 4; the general map of Attica in the same volume was signed by Arrowsmith. The hatchuring of elevated regions has been aquatinted, an uncommon usage.

Durdham Down has an impressive view of the winding River Avon and the Welsh mountains in the distance. Along with Clifton Down, it formed 400 acres of grassland on the edge of Bristol up to the Avon Gorge. Whereas Clifton had been bought by the Society of Merchant Venturers in 1686, Durdham was still part of the manorial estate of Henbury in the late 18th century. This was until 1861 when it was purchased for the use of the citizens of Bristol. After and from the plate first published in 1756 by Thomas Smith of Derby ( c.1720 - 1767), father of J.R. Smith.

Eaton. Aged 49 Years,a native Northamptonshire, Performed the following Pedestrian Feats. 1st Decr.26.1815, compleated on Blackheath,1100 miles, pn the Barclay plan, viz, a mile every hour. 2nd. July 20th.1816, at the same place he walked 1100 miles, comencing each mile within 20 mintues after each hour. 3rd. Decr. 5th.1816, on Brixton Causeway he accomplished 1998 half miles in 1998 succeeding half hours. 4th. June 18th.1817, this was a task of competitorship btween Baker & himself on Wormwood Scrubs & which was accomplished in one hour less than the given time, making 2000 miles in 42 days. 5th. Sept. 6th.1817, a grand match against time walking from Colchester to London, one day & returning to Colchester the next & so on fro 20 succeeding days, being 1020 miles.

He was president of the Royal Medical Society in 1806 and was elected F.R.S.E. (Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh) in 1812.

Francesca "Fanny" Cerrito as a water sprite, the title role of 'Ondine, ou La naïade', a ballet with choreography by Jules Perrot and music by Cesare Pugni. Monument to William Emerson (d.1575) in Southwark Cathedral, or the church of St Saviour and St Mary Overie, beside London Bridge south of the river Thames. Emerson and his family were benefactors to the church. The engraving was published in a volume on the antiquities of London, and is here offered with what is claimed to be the original drawing for the print.

Battle scene in which a Field Marshal stands with an outstretched arm before ranks of calvalrymen. Field Marshal was the most senior rank in the British Army and was introduced in 1736 by King George II. From 'Costumes of the Army of the British Empire, according to the last regulations of 1812'.
