Half-length seated portrait of political reformer Thomas Attwood (1783-1856), arms folded. He founded the Birmingham Political Union in 1830, campaigning for cities and large towns to be directly represented in Parliament. The portrait was published a month after the Reform Act of 1832 received Royal Assent. Attwood was elected to Parliament in December that year.

A self-published half-length portrait of boxer Thomas Belcher (1783-1854), arms crossed; wearing a dark double-breasted coat over a light waistcoat with high collar, neckerchief tied in a bow and frill. The younger brother of Jem Belcher (1781-1811, Champion of All England 1800-5), Thomas was an accomplished boxer and sparrer at the Tennis Court during Tom Cribb's proprietorship: he bested Shaw the lifeguardsman, John Gully and the African-American Tom Molineaux.

A bust portrait of English bare-knuckle boxer of the 19th century Tom Cribb (1781 - 1848), directed to the left, facing the front, with his left fist raised in front of him. On 10th December 1810, Cribb fought an American, former slave Tom Molineaux, at Shenington Hollow in Oxfordshire. Cribb beat Molineaux in 35 rounds and became World champion.

A very scarce portrait of Pierce Egan the elder (1772-1849), author of ‘Life of London' and other social journals. He wrote first about boxing in his serial publication, 'Boxiana, or Sketches of Ancient and Modern Pugilism' (1813-28). The presentation label, addressed to the Birmingham Theatre and dated August 9th 1838, consists of seven hand-written lines. This example is a reissue of the plate, first published in 1823, by his novelist son Pierce Egan the younger (1814-80).

Tom Hickman (1785-1822), boxer. In 1821 he was said to have engaged in a fight with Bill Neate. Hickman was a controversial fighter, dubbed 'the gas-light man', because he had been to London to construct the boilers and restorts of the new gas light factories. Plate to Pierce Egan's 'Boxiana'.
