A portrait of famed vermin catcher Richard Penrose, three-quarter length standing three-quarter to the left, in a low landscape dotted with trees, looking towards the viewer. With both hands in front of him he holds a snake. He is wearing a plain coat buttoned at the waist, with a broad belt, spotted neckerchief and wide-brimmed round hat. CS: 61.
