Fine mezzotint, 355 x 255mm (14 x 10"), with large margins. Uncut. Portrait of inventor and pioneer of the spinning industry, Samuel Crompton (1753-1827), half-length, seated in an armchair and turned slightly to one side, his gaze directed away. His right elbow rests on the arm of the chair, with his hand raised to his temple. He created the spinning mule in 1779. Whitman 65 II of II.
